With my kids racing around our hilly neighborhood on the Mini Kick scooters we bought for their birthdays, helmets are a mandatory part of their attire. But it’s tough finding helmets that fit little heads well– and aren’t covered in characters from the TV.

The Little Nutty helmets
from Nutcase (ha – get it?), whose motto is “I love my brain,” make
helmet-wearing fun, rather than merely a necessity, with seriously bold, clever designs
for both boys and girls.

But these helmets don’t just look great– they’re safe and
smart too. The ABS shell with inner foam plus a great venting system
keeps kids’ heads protected and fairly cool. Depending on the head
size, you can adjust the helmet with a handy fit dial in the back; even so,
make sure your kiddo’s head is in the size range. If they’re too big for
the Little Nutty, you can go up to Nutcase’s regular street helmets.

Most of
all, I love the one-handed magnetic closure which allows even my
littlest one to get her helmet on and off herself, and without nicking her chin.
I won’t say how many times we’ve accidentally done that. -Kristen

You can purchase Little Nutty helmets at the Nutcase online store, REI.com or in cool boutiques. They have them in adult sizes too!

  1. I like those a lot. Have you seen the animal ones from Target? They have everything from sharks to bunnies, complete with ears.

  2. My daughter has a Nutcase helmet (pink with retro starbursts) to use with her scooter. So cute!
